This home remedy is useful for sharpening this essential tool. If you notice that your scissors are no longer cutting paper, fabric or thread properly, it is common to think about replacing them. However, there is a home remedy that allows you to give them a ‘second life’ and restore their sharpness.
Having a pair of scissors in good condition is key to making precise and neat cuts, but frequent use causes them to lose their sharpness over time. To solve this problem, there is a little-known method that uses aluminium foil to sharpen them quickly and effectively.
How this trick works
Aluminium foil can be your best ally. The technique is simple and does not require the use of sophisticated tools:
- Cut a piece of aluminium foil: take a piece of aluminium foil approximately 30 centimetres long. Fold it several times until it is quite thick.
- Cut the aluminium foil: using your scissors, make cuts along the folded foil. Repeat this process about 10 to 15 times. The friction of the aluminium against the blades of the scissors helps to sharpen them.
- Test the sharpness: once you have finished, test your scissors on a piece of fabric to check that the sharpness has improved.
