When the cold weather arrives and we take our wool jumpers, scarves and coats out of the wardrobe, a classic problem arises: the hated bobbles or fluff that form with use, friction and washing. Although they don’t affect the warmth of the garment, they do give it an aged and neglected appearance that often makes us think about throwing it away prematurely.

The good news is that there is a very easy and inexpensive home remedy to remove them, without the need to buy electric lint removers or expensive accessories. All you need is something you probably already have at home: a regular razor. Yes, the same one you use to shave your legs or beard can bring your winter clothes back to life.

To apply this method, first place the garment on a flat surface and stretch it out well, making sure there are no wrinkles that could catch the razor. Use a razor in good condition, preferably new or with a sharp blade, and gently slide it over the surface of the fabric, always in the same direction. It is important not to apply too much pressure to avoid cutting threads or damaging the fabric. As you go along, remove the accumulated balls and continue until they are all gone.

Although this trick solves the problem, it is also important to prevent it. To do this, always wash woollen garments inside out, with cold water and mild soap. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as heat and friction increase the formation of lint. Ideally, dry them flat on a towel so that they keep their shape and do not become misshapen. Also, when storing them, put them in cloth or plastic bags to reduce friction with other garments.

These simple care tips will keep your woollen garments looking impeccable every season and ensure they retain their softness and warmth, just when you need them most.
