Many people, instead of spending a few days at the beach enjoying the Spanish coast, choose to take a different kind of trip, such as a getaway to a European city or an incredible cruise, either by sea or river. Every summer, thousands of people board huge ships to visit several destinations on the same itinerary, although the reality is that getting on one of these giants means taking a lot of things in your suitcase.

As these are very long trips, it is common for customers to travel with all kinds of things in their luggage, but what very few people know is that there are some items that cannot be brought on board the ship, as explained by a crew member who has worked on cruise ships for years. Lucy, in a video posted on YouTube, told passengers what they cannot bring with them when boarding.

What you can’t take on a cruise

The first thing she recommends not taking on a cruise is a pool float or similar item, as space is very limited in the water, so it’s very important that there is room for everyone. It is also prohibited to enter the ship with large fans, as they could damage the ship’s electrical system, as well as perishable food or appliances such as steam irons or coffee makers, as they could cause a fire.

It is possible to board with alcohol in your luggage, although you must hand it over to the crew members and wait until the last night of the cruise to enjoy it. The reason? The employees prefer that you consume it in the various bars on the ship rather than bringing it from outside, so they can earn more money during the trip. While on board, you may not use drones, although they are permitted in the ports where the ship stops.

As is logical, it is strictly forbidden to carry weapons and drugs on board, although another item that cannot be carried and which surprises many passengers is walkie-talkies (or baby monitors), as they are likely to interfere with the ship’s communication systems. Finally, it is also not permitted to carry the ashes of a deceased person to scatter them at sea, a very common practice but one that cannot be carried out on a cruise ship.

All of these items are strictly prohibited on cruise ships, so it is important to bear this in mind before embarking on a cruise so as not to start your dream trip in the worst possible way. It is therefore essential to check the rules of the ship before you start packing.
